Tatara is a third-year middle school student with no particular dreams or aspirations for his future, until an unexpected incident introduces him to the thrilling world of ballroom dancing. In dance, Tatara finds his passion. He also discovers that he possesses a keen sense of observation which enables him to pick up steps instantaneously.
Shizuku is Tatara’s classmate and Kiyoharu Hyodo’s dance partner. Together with Hyodo, she aspires to study dance abroad after graduating from middle school. She is a stoic and serious dancer, who resents Tatara when he first joins the dance studio.
Hyodo is Shizuku Hanaoka’s dance partner, Tatara’s classmate, and a dance prodigy with an impressive track record in the world of amateur dance. His cool demeanor belies his extremely passionate love of ballroom dancing.
Gaju is a first-year high school student whose dance partner is his younger sister, Mako. A passionate character with a Gunma accent, Gaju is Hyodo’s equal in the amateur Latin dance division. He considers Hyodo his greatest rival and wants to dance with his partner, Shizuku.
Mako is a second-year middle school student who partners with her older brother Gaju. She is a kind-hearted young girl who is considerate of others, but a conflict with her brother places their partnership at risk.
Sengoku is Tatara’s dance teacher. He sees Tatara being bullied and whisks him away to “Ogasawara Dance Studio” where he introduces him to the world of dance. Sengoku is a professional dancer with an impressive track record on the overseas circuit as well.
